Darkness was starting to cloud the skinny maned wolf's mind. His demon was making his life hell and Ugo felt as though it was only getting worse. He had met with a strange wolf, Nik as he liked to be called. He had two different spirits within his body and had seen them both. It had been odd and despite his fear of the wolf the 'nice' one of the two had begun to teach him a few techniques on how to get rid of his demon. He had gotten quite attached to the other male and was starting to think of him as a brother. The things he had tried worked but it was extremely painful for him and he wasn't very good at holding his calm and composure. Now he was on his own again, having wandered off from Nik for a while. He wasn't quite sure on where he was going but he wanted to just be alone. He was quite hungry really and decided that now would be the best time to go for a quick meal. The voice hadn't spoken up in a while and he figured he would be at peace long enough to catch something simple.

The sun was nearing its peak in the sky and the heat was as hot as it would get. Surprisingly it wasn't that bad as summer was coming to an end. It was the perfect time to catch a rabbit off guard, grazing on some of the last bits of lush grass. Quietly the male made his way toward the scent of the small creature. He turned himself and began to follow it, letting his body fall closer to the ground as he got closer. His dark amber eyes were wide as he gazed around, looking for his meal as the scent grew stronger. His stomach growled with the need for food and finally the small rabbit came into view. Ugo's ears fell back and he grew tense, his tail was still and his breathing was slowed so that he was completely silent and still. He slowly parted his jaws and flexed his muscles slightly. He waited for the rodent to lower its head once more before he shot forward.

It was in that split second that his mind exploded and a surge of pain shot through him. He was thrown into a spasm for a moment and landed on his paws short of the rabbit, which had feld the scene. Ugo snarled loudly and fell to his side, clenching his teeth hard as he shut his eyes. His body was trembling hard as a dark laugh filled his ears, the pain subsiding for a moment but still leaving him crippled on the ground. There were no words to follow just the echo of that sick laugh in his mind. He whimpered quietly and his body went limp, his breathing heavy as he did his best to calm himself down.

Her brother had found another young fae to take care of and train and so he was kept busy. Pepper herself had been given the task of tending the injured that came out of this war that was slowly tearing across the whole of Traum. She hated war, absolutely hated it, but there was nothing she could do. Pepper was first and foremost a Healer and therefore not a fighter. She could defend herself if she had to but the very thought of taking another's life was abhorrent to her. Yet wolves did it everyday more and more and it made the young fae sick just thinking about it. This is what now had the well out of her pack territory and into the roguelands. Eversong Woods was normally quite tranquil a place to walk and she and Salt had travelled this way long ago in search of a place to belong. It was normally a place of quiet serenity and Pepper enjoyed being here very much. Something wrong in the air caught the fae's attention and Pepper's ears went straight up in attention as she slowly scanned for the wrong in the world around her. Someone needed her help, and fast, if only she could find the one. Shifting this way and that she slowly closed off the world around her until she was able to focus in on one particular scent. The scent was male and very much in pain. Quick as thought the pale fae was off through the forest and soon found who it was she was searching for. A male indeed, and this one was very large and on his side breathing heavily as if each exhalation hurt. Tipping her ears back cautiously, Pepper moved forward until she could gently nuzzle the male on the side of the head and give him a soft lick of reasurrance. "There you are, be easy now. I'm a Healer and I'm here to help you." She'd found him, at last! But whatever was wrong? She couldn't smell any blood or toxins but something about him smelled wrong. What was going on?! Ugo continued to pant hard on his side, his eyes were wide as he looked around. His limbs felt numb and his body was stiff with fear and pain. He had had fits like this before however he wasn't in a good place to have one. He was out in the open, vulnerable to attack from any passing by wolf. He began to panic a bit and let out a soft whimper. He squirmed on the ground, his limbs slowly getting the feeling back in them as he calmed his mind and breathing. He tried to remember what Nik had taught him and closed his eyes, trying to push the demon from his mind as he trembled and whimpered like a helpless pup. It was disgusting to Ugo and he desperately wanted to get up and hope that no one saw. Of course though a wolf would come from the shadows and find him. He was about to snarl at her and bare his teeth but he felt a soft pressure against his head and his eyes grew wide again. Had she just nuzzled him? Then a lick followed it and he fell completely still.

This she-wolf was either very stupid or very brave. He blinked slowly at her soft words and couldn't do anything but stare at her for a moment. She was lightly colored and with the sun how it was she looked an angle to him. She was a healer, at least that is what he had heard from her. He took a few deep breaths and let his eyes fall closed as his body relaxed. Something about her had instantly calmed him and now he felt rather tired. It was odd and he wasn't sure if he should really trust this female. He had never trusted anyone so quickly but she had been kind to him right from the start, she was trying to help. He continued to tremble softly but soon was trying to get to his feet. His ears fell back against his head tightly as he looked up to get a better picture of the she-wolf. "Who...Who are you." He said quietly, his voice was rough from constantly screaming at the voice in his head. He swayed slightly as he got a bit light headed, still trying to recover from the pain that had cut him short from his rabbit. "Why are you here." He questioned and took a step back, a warning growl leaving his throat as he glared at this pale she-wolf.

He'd spoken to her with a voice that was so hoarse she'd barely understood him. He seemed suprised that she'd been kind to him and Pepper didn't understand why but her heart went out to him. "Who...Who are you? Why are you here?" Pepper could hear him growling at her as he slowly and painfully got to his feet. It was clear he was suspicious of her and she didn't blame him. Tilting her ears back against her head once more Pepper lowered herself into a position to show she was of no threat before slowly straightening her body into its full height. She was smaller than he was sure, but she was a Healer and he needed her. Yet still she kept her voice low and even and as soothing as she could make it. "My name is Pepper, and as I said before I am here to help you. I could sense that someone near me needed aide and I found you." Even this close to him Pepper still felt the wrongness in this male, but she still had yet to figure out what was causing it. So that meant all she could do was try to ease his pain until she found a solution to this problem. It wasn't much but it was likely more than this male expected. Word Count: 245

Ugo's eyes narrowed again as she spoke to him, her voice so even and kind. His large ears remained pressed against his skull as his tail lashed around at his heels. He was quickly regaining his composure and strength but as she introduced herself he snorted. His eyes rolled and he shook his head "You can't help me." He snapped and turned his back on her. He didn't mean to be so mean to her, she had done nothing wrong but he was tired of wolves telling him that they were there to help. He couldn't be helped, not by anyone unless it was Nik. That wolf had been a god send to him and he was suddenly regretting leaving him. His head throbbed and he swayed slightly as he tried to walk. He growled and his legs gave out, his body falling to the ground again. His ears pressed hard against his skull as his eyes fell closed. His breathing heavy as his jaws parted, panting now.

To any other wolf he would have appeared to be sick, diseased and on his last leg of life. Though this was really just a fit, something that happened nearly every week. His demon would get restless and decide to cripple him and taunt him in the shadows of his mind. He growled loudly again and every hair along his back lifted. He shook his head slightly as that evil laughing returned to his ears. "Go away!" He shouted, though it was unclear as to who he was saying it to. His eyes were open now but unfocused and glazed over with pain. I'll never go away you mutt. No matter how much training you under go. You'll never rid of me. That evil voice spoke to him again and he snarled loudly, shaking his head more violently as he tried to scramble to his feet only to fall a few feet away. He gave up at that point and went limp on his side, his breathing still heavy as his eyes fell closed. His body trembling as he tried to do what Nik had taught him. It just wasn't working now, not while he was so weak.

Pepper wasn't one to be easily put off though and held her ground, ears going back up once more in a steady show of patience. This male obviously didn't want her help but that wasn't going to deter Pepper in the least. It became apparent by his scornful words that he didn't think she could help him. Which was about the time Pepper realized the male's ailment wasn't physical...it was mental. She moved back slightly as the male tried to move away from her. Then it seemed as if he was having some sort of seizure and Pepper shifted worriedly. He said to go away but Pepper was beginning to wonder if it was she he was speaking to. So instead of running off and leaving him be like he likely wanted her too, Pepper shifted into a protective stance near Ugo and kept a lookout while the fit went through him. Slowly she went through the pack she often kept with her and pulled out an assortment of herbs which she then put on the ground and mixed with her paws. Soon a faint smell filled the area. Pepper hoped the herbs would help. They were designed to promote calm and ease strain in the brain [and not just headaches either] It seemed to Pepper that this male's issues were with his head, so she would try to treat the problem. It wasn't one she'd seen before, but one can always learn new things. "Rather you want me here or not, I am not going anywhere. I'm going to try to help you if I can, but I won't abandon you in the meantime." Her words were soft and calm, and full on sincerity. She wasn't going anywhere despite how much Ugo may wish her to. As Ugo lay there, limp and trembling he couldn't help but notice that the female was still around. She hadn't left even after his crazy outburst. He was wondering if maybe there was something wrong with her too. What sane creature would want to be around Ugo, would willing stay after seeing such a thing. He didn't know what to think of it but she was a fool or just a really good wolf. He closed his eyes again then and tried to calm himself down as the fit seemed to fade away. His muscles relaxed and soon an odd scent reached his nose. He opened his eyes slowly and tried to lift his head from the ground. He spotted the mixture of herbs and then looked to the female. So she was indeed a healer as she had said before. He sighed and rested his head on the ground again, just wanting to lay for a moment as he caught his breath. This allowed his muscles to relax from being so tense and cramped. For now the voice in his head was gone, but he could feel the pressure there, always lingering, waiting to strike out at him.

Her soft voice rang out again and Ugo sighed softly. He shifted again and finally got to his feet. He swayed softly and had to sit down in order to not fall over again. His head was hanging between his shoulders as he gathered his thoughts. "You can't help me with any herbs." He whispered. "You can only dull the pain for a little while." He said and looked up to her now. "You don't even know me and yet you try so hard to help me. Why?" He asked a bit harshly. It seemed stupid in his head, to help a wolf that you had never met in your life. Even if she was a healer, he was not part of her pack, he was just a lone wolf. He shifted slightly in his place and growled lowly as a painful headache started to form, causing his eyes to throb and his ears to ring. He shivered and closed his eyes slowly, trying to breath in deeply and exhale slowly. He had to keep calm, couldn't let that beast take hold of him again.

He'd noticed her herbs, there was no way he hadn't, and yet he didn't seem interested in using them. His words to her made amber eyes widen as she realized why. "You can't help me with any herbs.You can only dull the pain for a little while.You don't even know me and yet you try so hard to help me. Why?" Pepper shook her head and shifted her protective stance as the male came out from his seizure-like fit. He didn't understand her motives, that wasn't new, but what could she say that would make sense to him. An idea struck her just then and after looking around to make sure no danger was approaching, she shifted her eyes to the male and answered him honestly. "I know my motives don't make sense to you, and that's fine, but the only answer I can give you is that it is not in my nature to leave another in pain when I may be able to help. Even if the hearbs won't help, I want to find something that can. I couldn't just leave you out here alone for some larger predator to take out when you couldn't defend yourself, it wouldn't be right!" She shook her head to settle herself before she could continue in a calm voice; she didn't want to upset him after all. "Sorry I raised my voice, I just..." She paused and really thought about the reason she did what she did. No one had ever really asked her about it. Finally the answer came as it always did and she offered a gentle smile to the hurting male. "I help because it is what I always have done. I don't see that you don't belong to my pack or that you may be my enemy. All I know is that you were hurting and you needed me. You needed someone to be willing to come and help you. That's all it was. I don't have any alterior motive as you seem to beleive and I swear I am not unintellegent. I just cannot stand to see others in pain."
